The people of Bern Evangelical Lutheran Church are centered in worship. When we gather, we experience the power of the gospel. We sing praises to God, share the peace of Christ with one another and receive in bread and wine the real presence of Christ to empower us for daily living. We joyfully invite you to join us as we worship our Lord and Savior.
From Labor Day to Memorial Day, we gather for worship on Sunday mornings at 8:00 am and 10:15 am. During the summer months, we all worship together at 9:00 am.
Holy Communion is celebrated on the first and third Sundays at 10:15 am and on the second and fourth Sundays at 8:00 am. We believe that Jesus is truly present in the bread and the wine. As we eat and drink, we are filled with Christ's presence. It is Christ who invites us to his table and all are welcome.
Our 8:00 am worship service is briefer and more informal than the later worship.
At 10:15 am, there is more liturgy, a third hymn and a children's sermon as well as the lessons, sermon and prayers that are shared at both services. No matter which worship service you attend at Bern, you will find a relaxed, welcoming and joyful atmosphere.
Sunday School for grades pre-school through 5th grade is held from 9:30 am to 10:10 am.
This is a time for the children to be taught about Jesus and to share their faith with one another. Sunday School at Bern is interactive, fun and inspirational.
Confirmation class meets on Sundays from
11:45 am - 12:45 pm. Confirmation is for 8th and 9th grade students who are interested in growing in their faith by learning more about the bible and what we believe as Lutherans.
After two years of instruction, the students are invited to become adult members of the congregation through affirming their faith in a Confirmation worship service. As well as the time we spend together on Sunday mornings, the confirmation class enjoys working on service projects together and participating in worship as Acolytes, Lectors, and Ushers.
Between the two morning worship services, we enjoy a time of fellowship with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and sometimes a few little snacks. Once a month, we enjoy a Social Hour complete with a variety of drinks and delicious treats. Our fellowship times give us a time to catch up with one another and meet new friends.
The winter season is upon us, and may from time to time affect scheduled worship services and activities at church. Particularly when bad weather conditions arise on Sunday mornings, you may wish to check the website of WFMZ TV 69 for any information regarding our schedule. Any decision to cancel will be made through consultation with the Council President by 5:15 a.m. In all situations, however, please exercise good judgment before you set out to travel.
