ABOUT US

Bern Evangelical Lutheran Church is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod. As a member of this larger church body, we are able to do far more in mission then we could ever do ourselves.

Bern has a heart for those in need. We generously give to alleviate hunger in our community, our nation, and our world. We support Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR), stepping up when there is a need for financial assistance due to hurricanes or other natural disasters.

The people of Bern Evangelical Lutheran Church are centered in worship. When we gather together, we experience the power of the gospel. We sing praises to God, share the peace of Christ with one another and receive in bread and wine the real presence of Christ to empower us for daily living. We joyfully invite you to join us as we worship our Lord and Savior.

Our worship service is held at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday morning. Holy Communion is celebrated the first three Sundays of the month.

Sunday School for grades preschool through 5th grade is held on Sunday mornings from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. after our worship service. This is a time for the children to be taught about Jesus and to share their faith with one another. Sunday School at Bern is interactive, fun, and inspirational.

Confirmation class meets on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. before our worship service. Confirmation is for 8th and 9th grade students who are interested in growing their faith by learning more about the Bible and what we believe as Lutherans.

After two years of instruction, the students are invited to become adult members of the congregation through affirming their faith in a Confirmation worship service. As well as the time spent together on Sunday mornings, the Confirmation class enjoys working on service projects together and participating in worship as Acolytes, Lectors, and Ushers.

Bern Lutheran Church Congregational Council meets the third Monday of each month to discuss church business and vote on important matters.
